Electrifying time on Brunel

Skipper Bouwe Bekking checks in with a charged update from Team Brunel...

It has been a very hectic 24 hours..
Yesterday we ran through a massive thunderstorm, with a huge amount of lightning. The stable breeze instantly changed and before we knew it we were becalmed. Then a huge lightning strike hit, so close the sparks were flying off the mast and runners.
Rome, who was driving, was laying flat on the deck, just from the shock of the massive sound as well.
Luckily no electronics got blown out. Of course there was plenty of rain as well. It makes you wonder what happens with all the electricity going through the boat and you are standing there barefoot and some with bare chest... Carbon is very good at leading electricity through. But we all survived:-)
Of course you are always worried when you park up, and wondering how did the others cope with it, did they park up as well or did they keep going?
As it turned out the leaders were also slow, but Scallywag missed everything and made a massive gain...
We have the feeling that we are sailing well and that shows as well in the reports. We just have to keep chipping away. 30 miles to the leader is a lot, but we know all is possible.
It is always remarkable that seeing land always has an extra positive effect on everybody. For one it might be the snow white beaches, for another one seeing the green forest and maybe even for some knowing that you are not by yourself out here ;-)
One big downside with seeing land is that it results straight away in plenty of rubbish in the water, from plastic bottles, bags to big fishing nets and wooden crates. Not funny at all !

Electrizante momento en el  Brunel

 han sido m 24 horas uy agitadas... Ayer corrimos a través de una tormenta masiva, con una gran cantidad de rayos. La brisa estable cambió instantáneamente y antes de que supiéramos estábamos estancados. Entonces golpeó un rayo enorme,  las chispas volaban por el mástil y corredores. Roma, que conducía, estaba acostado en la cubierta, desde la descarga del sonido masivo . Por suerte la  electrónica consiguió que el rayo fuera  hacia fuera. Por supuesto hubo mucha lluvia también. Le hace preguntarse qué pasa con toda la electricidad pasando por el barco y están de pie allí descalzos y algunos con el  pecho desnudo... el Carbono es muy bueno para qie pase la electricidad a través suyo . Pero todos sobrevivimos:-) por supuesto preocupa siempre al parque y preguntándose cómo los otros frente a él, se estacionan hasta así o ¿seguir? Resultó que los líderes también fueron lentos, pero Scallywag perdió todo y había hecho una ganancia masiva... Tenemos la sensación de que estamos navegando bien y que se muestra así en los informes. Sólo tenemos que mantener el  salto lejos. 30 millas al líder es mucho, pero sabemos que todo es posible. Siempre es notable que ver tierra siempre tiene un efecto muy positivo en todo el mundo. Para uno podría ser las playas de blanco como la nieve, para otro, ver el bosque verde y tal vez incluso para algunos sabiendo que no eres por ti mismo aquí;-) una gran desventaja con ver la tierra es que enseguida resulta en un montón de basura en el agua , botellas de plástico, bolsas para cajones de madera y redes de pesca grandes. No es nada divertido en absoluto! Saludos, Bouwe
