equipo del trimarán “Maserati” Multi 70, (Alex Pella, Giovanni Soldini,
Guido Broggi, Sébastien Audigane y Oliver Herrera) ha pospuesto su
salida para intentar batir el récord entre Hong Kong y Londres,
que estaba prevista para hoy viernes. “Hemos descubierto un problema en
la parte superior del mástil durante el último control del barco”,
comenta Giovanni Soldini.
“Preferimos reemplazar la parte
dañada, en lugar de correr riesgos innecesarios. Es una pieza construida
en Europa y estamos estudiando la mejor solución para que nos la envíen
o encontrarla aquí”, señala Soldini. “Volvemos a estar de nuevo en
espera y en cuanto lo reparemos y haya una ventana de buen clima
saldremos para batir el récord de esta mítica Ruta del Té”, asegura Alex
Pella. El “Maserati” debe recorrer las 13.000 millas náuticas en menos
de 41 días, que es el tiempo que tiene el actual poseedor del récord.

El récord Hong Kong-Londres recorre la ruta seguida por los clipper que transportaban el té desde China hasta Inglaterra en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. Célebre fue la Great Tea Race del 1866 que enfrentó a los cinco clipper más
modernos y rápidos de la época. La regata tuvo una gran repercusión
mediática y concluyó de una manera muy emocionante con los tres primeros
competidores remontando el río Támesis con la misma marea y atracando
en los muelles de Londres con pocas horas de diferencia, tras 99 días de
navegación.
